Kathyrn P. Carr
Received MLS from Atlanta University. Began career with the
Los Angeles Public Library (LAPL) at Malabar Branch (first Black librarian to
work in a non-Black community). Served in various branches advancing to Regional
Librarian. Employed by UCLA to organize and develop a library for the Federal
Advance Teachers College, University of Lagos, Nigeria. Returned to LAPL as a
Principal Librarian, Catalog Department, and later as Regional Librarian in
Western Region. Served on Mayor’s Blue Ribbon Committee to Study the
Feasibility of the Central Library Project and on various committees of the
California Library Association and the American Library Association.
