Elaine Parker Adams
Medical Librarian, Second Coordinator for Southern Area. Began negotiations for the Minority Services Coordinator position at L. A. County Public Library.

Agnes Louise Davis
Graduate of USC Library School, mentor and advisor for Black librarians. Her name added to the CLBC-GLA Scholarship in 1994.

Eunice Parker
Graduate of Atlanta University Library School. Served the City and County of San Francisco for thirty-three years. CLBC Northern Area Scholarship named in her honor in 1984.

 

Individuals Who Have Consistently Supported CLBC

Betty Jean Blackman
Dean of the University Library, California State University, Dominguez Hills. CLA Member, Liaison to ALA, ALA Council Member.

Shirley Coaston
Graduate of U. C. Berkeley. Librarian, Laney Community College. Member of Delta Sigma Theta. Supported the Northern Chapter as Treasurer for a number of years.

Alonzo & Dale Davis
Sons of Agnes L. Davis and owners of Brockman Gallery. These young men began their support by hosting regular meetings of CLBC-GLA at their art gallery free of charge. After their mother's death, they have consistently made generous donations to the Louise Moses--Agnes Davis Scholarship Fund.

Edith Maureen Fisher
U. C. San Diego Librarian; Past President BCALA; Currently owns her own consultant firm, Tenge Enterprises; and member of CLBC-GLA.

Billie Jean Frierson
Graduate of UCLA. Assistant Library Administrator for L. A. County Public Library. Served terms as Coordinator and active member.

Elaine M. Hughes
Graduate of Atlanta University. A dedicated librarian, devoted CLBC member, who served as the first Recording Secretary and on a number of committees and who participated in every program that CLBC sponsored.

Dr. E. J. Josey
Founder of the Black Caucus of the American Library Association. Professor Emeritus, University of Pittsburgh School of Library Sciences. Past President of ALA. Author, mentor and advocate for Black librarians and Black library users throughout his career. Gave support in 1970 to L. A. County Librarians who were preparing a complaint against Los Angeles County Public Library

Dr. Beverly Lynch
Graduate of North Dakota State University, U of Illinois at Urbana Champagne, and University of Wisconsin Madison. Honored ACRL Director, ALA President, librarian, and professor. During tenure as Dean of UCLA GSLIS, assisted CLBC to obtain a Recruitment and Mentorship grant from the State Library and continuously supported CLBC.

Elizabeth Martinez
County Librarian, L. A. and Orange Counties, City Librarian, Los Angeles Public Library, and Executive Director, ALA. Since before the creation of CLBC, consistently shared her vision and worked diligently to form coalitions and support groups, and worked closely with the officers and members of CLBC to see that our goals were achieved.

Miriam Matthews
California's first professionally trained African American librarian. Historian, art mentor, supporter, and collector; mentor and role model for African American librarians; and member and financial supporter of CLBC-GLA.

Stefan B. Moses
As CLA Executive Director, provided encouragement and support during the formative years of CLBC.

Lois Edwards Phillips
Served in various offices of CLBC-GLA including Recording Secretary and Treasurer and served on various committees and participated in almost every program presented by CLBC.

Oscar Sims
UCLA Social Sciences Bibliographer, now retired. Has continuously supported CLBC and still continues to remain involved from his home in Henderson, Nevada.

Frank Terry
L. A. Public Library Board Member. Continually supported the efforts of CLBC.

Binnie Tate Wilkin
Children's librarian, professional storyteller, library school professor, author, mentor, advisor to number of committees at the state and national level, and contributor to CLBC-GLA. Under her leadership, CLBC-GLA increased the size of its Scholarship Fund and awarded its first $1,000 Scholarship.

Amanda Williams
Trustee, Berkeley Public Library. One of the first to join CLBC, has been and continues to be a strong community advocate for improved services to African American users and a strong supporter of African American librarians.
