Advancing equity in California librarianship

The California Librarians Black Caucus (CLBC) is a statewide organization, established in 1972, to:

• Eradicate inequities facing African Americans in the library workplace,

• Function in the state of California as an ombudsman for African American communities regarding the provision of library and information services.

• Promote and promulgate literature and information by and about African Americans.

• Evaluate and contact publishers regarding the quality of published materials by and about African Americans, and 

• Challenge libraries statewide to provide maximum access to such materials.  

CLBC is an independent California nonprofit 501(c)(3), affiliated with the Black Caucus of the American Library Association (BCALA). 

While individual members may be affiliated with other professional organizations, CLBC is not directly affiliated with any other professional organizations and or associations.

CLBC aims to expand local and statewide interests in the library and information science profession in and for California’s Black/African Americans and to enhance our professional image.

Since its inception, more than 50 years ago, the California Librarians Black Caucus (CLBC) continues to provide leadership and services in the library and information science profession; to communities of African descent and all persons living in the State of California.
